James Merritt, Jr. is an associate at Gray, Rust, St. Amand, Moffett & Brieske. His practice primarily focuses on personal injury, premises liability, and commercial litigation. As an experienced litigator, James has successfully been the solo attorney in multiple bench and jury trials resulting in defense verdicts and judgments. James was also selected to be a Super Lawyers Rising Star by Atlanta magazine, a distinction reserved for the top 2.5 percent of lawyers in Georgia.
James earned his Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from the University of Georgia in Athens. He then earned his Juris Doctor from Mercer University’s Walter F. George School of Law in 2008. James was also accepted into the No. 1 Legal Writing Program in the nation, where he earned his Certificate of Advanced Legal Writing, Drafting, and Research. While in law school, he advanced to the final rounds of the Lawson Oral Argument Competition.
When not at work, James can be found cheering on the Atlanta Braves and Georgia Bulldogs, struggling on the golf course, or spending time with his son Harper and daughter Presley. James enjoys raising money for the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life and is an active member of Cross Pointe Church in Duluth, Georgia.
